Herne Bay is on the north Kent coast, easily accessible via the M2 and A299 from the west, or the A28 and A290 from the south of the county. The town's streets with the High Street and Mortimer Street, the main shopping areas, parallel to the seafront, with other roads running in between. Whichever end of the town you enter from, it's easy to get to the seafront and start exploring.
There are several public car parks, all maintained by Canterbury City Council, as well as on-street parking along most of the sea front. If you visit in the winter, the seafront bays are free but from April to September there is a pay and display system operating.
There are free bays in the town centre if you're planning to be less than an hour, or near the Memorial Park in Kings Road for longer periods. You can also park for free - if you can find a space - in Beacon Hill, which runs alongside the Downs and is a great place to start exploring the Coastal Park.
